Summary

I am a well seasoned teacher of 40+ years. I have read thousands of pages, lined bookshelves, quoted poems and shared excerpts from my favorite books. My work of 25+ years at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood created a firm foundation that I would like to continue in a library. No job would be too small or too big. I just want to further the love of books. Thank you.

  • I’m the first face, and the last face, customers see most days. I’m making sure they feel welcomed, but not bothered. People want to take their time, look, and enjoy quietness. Then, there are others who enjoy chit-chat. I am a senior citizen, so I have learned that people are different and want different things. I'm pretty good at knowing when to chat, and when to just greet and smile. I make suggestions, share what I know about the product, and do whatever I can to make their experience so good that they want to come back. My main job is to set a happy environment when people walk in. I rarely meet a stranger, and my customers have become friends. I also make certain that the coolers are filled, neatly arranged, and in date. I answer the phone to take orders and assist in any way needed for that customer. Helping my customers is a joy, more so than a job. It's a privilege.

  • I started teaching preschool at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood AL in August 1994 and I retired in May 2022. I was responsible for teaching four-year-old children the requirements set by the State of Alabama and having them ready for five-year-old kindergarten. They learned their letters, upper and lowercase, numbers, shapes, how to hold and use a pencil correctly, correctly write their first and last name, color, and know the names of the colors, and much more. For many children, I was their first teacher. I absolutely loved my job. My favorite part was children's literature. I couldn’t get enough of it, and I promised myself I would create a love in their tiny hearts for all the children’s literature that I could possibly share. I set a goal each year to read aloud over 300 books. We review that goal every year. Of course, that’s not even counting my reading a book over and over again, which might be someone’s favorite choice. We made journals, illustrations , and lots of finger plays. I worked with the very best of teachers. There was another four-year-old teacher down the hall, and we meshed and worked beautifully together. She taught me new things, and I taught her old things. It was the perfect setup. The only thing that I can imagine that would be better would be to work in a library in a part-time capacity, doing whatever needs to be done to help. I am very familiar with children’s literature, and at the same time, I love most all books.
