  • Answers all incoming and initiates all outgoing calls in a courteous and professional manner focusing on excellent customer service. Arranges admissions and transfers according to Access Center procedures. Asks questions related to medical necessity, appropriate level of care, and ensures legal and regulatory compliance with admission procedures. Understands and complies with EMTALA regulations for transfers. Conducts interviews with referring physicians in order to identify whether an external transfer is emergent or non-emergent. Establishes and monitors a conference call between the referring physician and the attending physician in order to obtain clinical acceptance or denial of a transfer.
  • Notifies the inpatient units regarding estimated time of arrival of transfers. Enters data into the University of Colorado Hospital's patient billing and registration system. Adds and updates records in an existing database. Uses the phone and recording systems within the Access Center correctly. Works independently and cooperatively with other Admissions Department team members in order to facilitate admissions and transfers. Ensures continuity by giving an accurate and thorough report to the oncoming shift. Seeks assistance for unusual or difficult situations and/or issues.
  • Completes all manual and automated documentation necessary for the admission of a patient to the University of Colorado Hospital. Understands and complies with policies related to patient valuables and cash collection. Assists with training and cross training of Access Center and other personnel as requested. Prints and distributes pre-designed reports and assists in developing new reports as needed. Sends correspondence to referring physicians and facilities as requested. Responsible for knowing and demonstrating National Patient Safety standards.
  • Collects and enters patient demographic and insurance data into computer database to establish patient's medical record.
