  • Current Position: NICU RN Team Lead, started October 2022. Responsibilities include staffing and scheduling, managing daily operations, assisting with NICU Unit Based Council, NICU employee evaluations, NICU nurse skills check-offs, updating and developing policy and procedure for NICU and Newborn Nursery, Ensuring equipment necessary for function in the NICU is repaired and available, overseeing donor milk depot and ordering donor milk for use on Maternal Child Unit, chart audits and QI for NICU, Nurse Champion for Homeward Bound Quality Initiative, EPIC superuser and participating with NICU EPIC chart build, Initiated and oversees Department of Health Newborn Screening Portal, Assists with community outreach as Child Passenger Safety Technician, and obtaining grant money for NICU. Collaborates with and reports to Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator for Maternal Child Health to improve work flow, patient safety, and employee satisfaction.
  • Served as permanent weekend night shift charge nurse from hire date until 2019, when charge nurse positions in NICU were dissolved. Provide care for infants with UACs, UVCs, PICC lines, TPN and Lipids, chest tubes, nasal cannulas, high flow nasal cannulas, CPAP, NIPPV, and endotracheal intubation. Infants under 32 weeks are transferred to Shands UF Jacksonville or Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville. Infants requiring more than 4 days of ventilator support are also transferred.
  • Collaborated with administration, marketing, and the Mother's Milk Bank of Florida to obtain vendor's agreement, then opened Flagler Hospital OB Milk Depot in October 2017. Drafted policy for Milk Depot. Began partnership with Mother's Milk Bank of Florida, opening the door to obtain donor milk for use in the NICU.
  • Assisted with writing and implementing policy and procedures under the direction of Carolyn Kraly, Clinical Coordinator for NICU. (Wrote Milk Depot Policy and Collection, Safe Handling, and Storage of Expressed Breast Milk Policy).

  • Started PRN position from February 2006 until September 2006 when a full time position became available.
  • Worked primarily in Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. During times of low census, also worked Neonatal Transition and Treatment Nursery (Treatment Nursery was for infants with NAS, BUFA infants whose biological mothers did not want to room in, DCF holds, infants receiving phototherapy, hypoglycemia protocol, or IV antibiotics, procedures such as lingual frenectomy, circumcision, and digit excision, and annexed infants whose mother's were unable to care for them due to illness, incarceration, or DCF orders.).
  • Responsibilities in Newborn Nursery included transitional care of neonates, assisting mothers with newborn care and breastfeeding, bili-scans, and labs.
  • All infants were brought from L&D one hour after birth for meds, admission assessment, and bath. Infants were then taken back to room-in with mothers if stable. Rooming-in was encouraged, but a Newborn Nursery was available.
  • A Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was available for infants requiring IV fluids, oxygen therapy, phototherapy, IV antibiotics, and infants transferred from Shands UF Gainesville (stable feeder/grower preemies).
  • Infants at this hospital are shipped if they require more support than CPAP as there are Neonatologists available.
  • AdventHealth Ocala implemented a Couplet Care model which went live February 2013. All Nursery/NICU Nurses were trained in transition and couplet care. Nursery/NICU nurses attend all deliveries and transition newborns with their mothers. All cares for neonate are performed in L&D in front of family as long as mother and infant are stable. Infant stays with mother at all times and is transferred with mother to postpartum unit. Postpartum nurse cares for mother and infant as a couplet unless one or both are unstable. No respite nursery is available for stable newborns.
  • Newborn Nursery/NICU Nurses provided supplemental staffing to PostPartum, L&D, Pediatrics, and the Pediatric Emergency Room.
  • Served as permanent weekend night shift Charge Nurse. Responsibilities included staffing the unit, making assignments, collaborating with L&D, Postpartum, and Pediatrics to ensure safe patient care by assigning the correct nurses to the correct units when there were call-outs or low census, attending all C/S deliveries, being a resource for L&D and postpartum related to infant stabilization, care, and concerns, critical thinking and decision making throughout shift to provide appropriate assignments to coworkers based on skillset, experience, and level of confidence. Encouraged, mentored, challenged, and empowered coworkers to improve and develop new skillsets and comfort in caring for more complex patients.
