  • The core responsibilities of this position are to provide care for the sick and injured patients of the Black Hills and West River regions of South Dakota in a rotor craft asset
  • Additionally, I have flown on a fixed wing asset for prolonged critical care transports from this region across the nation
  • My critical care responsibilities are to work with a critical care paramedic in performing assessment and treatment to include airway management including rapid sequence intubation; medication administration and maintenance drips; administration and maintenance of blood; ventilator management; surgical airway intervention; chest tube insertion and a multiple array of other critical care interventions before and during transport based on decisions and assessment findings supported by protocol and physician orders
  • I am responsible for working with my paramedic partner and pilot to ensure daily and preflight safety inspections are performed and perform proper risk assessments to ensure the safest possible completion of any given mission
  • As this base's longest standing crew member, I have assisted with the team's QA and training processes
  • I have attended all required training, including traveling to critical care refreshers and cadaver labs, and have also participated in staff meetings as appropriate

  • My daily core responsibilities were to serve the local community as an ALS 911 response provider to care for the sick and injured in the city of Sturgis and greater Meade County area of South Dakota
  • This service also provided critical care ground transport for inter-facility transfers from the local hospital to different facilities providing a higher level of care
  • Daily standard operations included daily ambulance inspections to ensure response readiness and cleaning and maintenance of the station and assigned work areas
  • I was required to perform ALS paramedic skills on the sick and injured including physical assessment and treatment to include airway management and oxygen delivery; intubation and RSI; cardiac monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation; medication administration and drip maintenance; managing resuscitations and cardiac arrests; IV starts and standard BLS care such as bleeding control and packaging for spinal precautions
  • My critical care responsibilities were the same as ALS, but also included extensive medication knowledge, administration, and maintenance; ventilator management; chest tube management; and non-invasive ventilator management in the way of CPAP or BIPAP
  • During my time with this employer I also spent time as a supervisor with the responsibilities of ensuring daily staffing, narcotic usage audits, managing the training and continuing education program, annual protocol review, QA/QI, and the disciplinary process and procedures while ensuring due process
