Upon completion of my educational career I was offered the opportunity to work as a day care teacher in the infant room at Timothy Lutherean. I worked part time and most of the time loved the job except when all six babies would cry at once! The job ended when Covid hit and the daycare was closed. I was accepted to teach at the school in August of 2020, but had to decline as I became my Grandson's "Covid" teacher supporting him through online learning. I was dedicated to supporting emotional, social and academic development of young children. Trained in developmental stages and knowledgeable about offering safe, nurturing environments to boost learning.
Beginning my teaching career at the age of 39, as a Special Education Teacher in Grain Valley Missouri. My students ranged from kindergarten through 6th grade and all had disabilities of some form. Then promoted from within the district I was responsible for creating their first Early Childhood Special Education Center and remained as a teacher there for three years. From there I move to Lee's Summit School District and remained there until retirement.
I completed my educational career in Lee's Summit MO. as a Special Education Coordinator. This position required many hours of additional training, working as a liaison between the parents, the school district and following the regulations of the state of Missouri. I worked closely with the legal aspect of education informing parents of their rights. Confidentiality was held in the highest regard. I was in charge of a multi disciplinary team that would evaluate a child, and determine if the child qualified for services, and if so then meet with the teachers and parents to work out a plan to best help their child.
Prior to my educational career I mainly worked for insurance companies in different positions but mainly clerical. Started at BMA, ( from high school) Attended Longview community college then worked at Mutual Benefit Life. These positions were clerical in nature. We moved to Columbia, MO for a short time, and when we moved back I began working at Aetna. There I was a medical claims adjuster.
