Developed and maintained an open, effective communication with project managers, maintenance supervisors, as well as other ODOT personnel, contractors, other jurisdictions and the general public. Communicated verbally in person, over the phone and in writing to communicate with the media and the public regarding upcoming construction projects.
Attended preliminary construction meetings with project managers, inspectors, contractors, sub contractors, local counties and city jurisdictions for the purpose of learning the scope of project with minor or major road closures within each project for the initial news release for all upcoming projects. Reviewed preliminary and final construction plans to assist with the safety of the traveling public. Daily contact with project managers and or inspectors to gather information to produce a daily news release in developing effective strategies to mitigate impacts to the traveling public. This information was shared with media outlets, other transportation agencies and emergency dispatch centers within Oregon Department of Transportation Region 1.
Receive phone calls from public, police City and County agencies regarding traffic or highway incidents, gained experience with coordinating, managing and prioritizing projects and other incidents. Responsibilities included writing/producing a daily maintenance activity report used by the local traffic reporting services and radio stations. Besides the daily activity report a weekly construction activity update and news release for the Oregonian and other newspapers. Information was used to produce a Public Affairs news release that went to dozens of media outlets, transportation and emergency dispatch centers, to notify the public of upcoming construction and maintenance activities. This information was an important tool used for developing effective strategies to mitigate impacts to the traveling public.
