Worked in the pediatric unit of the hospital where I cared for all ages of children on a regular basis and also filled in for OB/GYN and Well Baby Nursery.

In this position I gained experience in IV's, blood draws (we did all our own bloodwork), collected urine specimens, stool specimens, nasal suction specimens, and assisted Dr's in performing LP's.

We handled surgical as well as ill patients. This position required knowledge of IV machines, apnea and SAO2 monitoring, post surgery vitals, obtaining assessment, medical and medication histories. Starting IV's and maintaining a good line and close observation of site.

Gave IV , po, and rectal meds. Handled seizures, and aided in Codes.

Charted all vitals, assessments and observations And communicated them with RN, physician and other necessary staff to work together to secure a positive outcome.

Was also involve with Quality Assurance and Standard of Care teams to assure quality care to all our patients and a reference for nurses as to how Policies and Procedures were to be performed.

Also worked with a Endocrinologist to write new policies and procedures for Human Growth Hormone Study and led team to put new CODE carts in our unit, pediatric surgery and ER.

For the first 2 years I worked on the Orthopedic floor of the hospital, where I cared mostly for the needs of hip, knee and shoulder replacements post surgery as well as back surgeries. Also cared for patients in spinal or weight traction. EPC cuffs, IV's, Medications, Injections-IM and sub Q, and oral medications. Post surgery vitals, wound care, drains, communicating finding to RN and physicians as needed to affect good outcomes.

After my 2 years in ortho I loved to a large pediatric unit in the hospital, where I cared mostly for babies, however also spent much time with children and teens. My experience was a lot the same as at St Lukes, however we did specialize in respiratory being the largest program for Cystic Fibrosis in Northwest Ohio at the time. We also had a large asthma program. This gave me a great background with Respiratory illnesses and treatments.

Handled surgical as well as illness diagnosis. IV's, specimens of all kinds. assisted with Bronchoscopay's, gave medications as prescribed, worked as a team to accomplish the goal of giving great quality patient care. Observed closely for any change in patient condition.
