Summary

Successfully becoming CFO to not only continue the great work we have done in our department but to share my leadership with others to achieve similar results across the Ankeny School District in bettering culture, developing a supportive team, improving customer service and processes. I want to implement my plan that builds capacity and provides the financial resources to train myself and every member of my team.

My 25 years of experience of owning and operating a small business taught me skills of adapting and changing. I want to lead Ankeny Community Schools to move past what has always been done to meet the financial challenges that lie ahead. I am a firm believer that all need to be empowered through financial education so that as a “district” we can make the difficult decisions that will need to be made.

Oversee a staff of six lifting them up as a team to complete accurate, efficient and compliant financial reporting. Work extensively on improving culture, customer service and collaboration with others in the district. Providing a focus on improved processes for overall better results and efficiency.

  • Guide Business Office in development of Core Focus, Core Values, and strategic plan, guarantee adherence and achievement of all
  • Lead daily meetings with team to prioritize tasks and ensure ongoing success
  • Promote collaboration between the business office and others in the district while identifying areas for improvement, recommend new processes, develop and deliver training
  • Maintain internal controls, ensure proper accounting according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Oversaw day to day operations of local Information Technology(IT) and Leadership training franchise. Million plus yearly revenue, up to 25 full-time employees and longest standing IT training company in Iowa, training tens of thousands of students from companies of all sizes and industries in central Iowa as well as displaced workers, career changers and incarcerated women. I took the company from 1 million in debt to turning a profit and debt free.

  • Created budgets, perform daily accounting activities, payroll and commission calculations, bank reconciliations, monthly and yearly financial reporting, monitoring overall financial health and monthly reporting to franchisor.
  • Identified and tracked operational issues, collaboratively discussing, evaluating and implementing solutions and processes.
  • Recruited, hired, trained, inspired and developed new employees.
  • Set performance metrics, communicated expectations, supervised and evaluated employee performance, recognized achievements and took corrective action when necessary.
  • Engaged with staff, empowering individuals to take initiative, to be creative and to collaborate positively.
  • Shaped new and innovative customer solutions, oversaw large training projects and worked closely with sales team to attract and retain clients.
  • Developed new sales and marketing strategies and set goals for growth.
  • Designed and carried out student recruitment events for large plant closures across central Iowa. Developing programs for those affected, oversaw the training rollout, helped with resume writing, interviewing preparation and job placement.
