  • Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner of EMS. Assists with development of field training drills, in-service training records, and preparation of other EMS operational drills. Assist with the process of collecting, retrieving, and organizing data from a variety of sources and preparing reports and presentations as needed for monthly and annual reports. Serves as a liaison for the EMS Division within CFD and in addressing questions from the public and other agencies.

Fire Paramedic

  • Be responsible for correct and timely performance of assigned house duties as directed by the Paramedic Officer. Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of current departmental policies and procedures, all applicable sections of the Illinois E.M.S. Act, and applicable portions of the Illinois Department of Public Health regulations pursuant to said Act, as well as, current Standing Medical Orders and The Chicago E. M.S. System Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Maintain himself/herself physically and mentally fit to perform any and all normally assigned duties at all times.
  • Represent the Department in such a manner as to reflect favorably in the public's view and preserve the highest degree of confidence in the FIRE/EMS Service
  • Maintain certification as an EMT-P within the State of Illinois. Hold and maintain a valid State of Illinois Drivers License appropriate to operate an ambulance.
  • Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of the locations of emergency departments, adult and pediatric trauma centers and other specialty care centers, such as: burn units, decompression chamber units, etc.-, identified in the participating hospital list.
  • Inspect the physical appearance and operational condition of the ambulance apparatus and perform all operator maintenance to include: batteries, oil level, transmission fluid level, coolant system, fuel supply, tires, all lights and siren, brakes, steering system, electrical system, heat, A/C, and exhaust system at the beginning and as often as may be necessary during his/her tour of duty.
  • Inspect the operational condition of all medical, electronic and communication equipment assigned to the ambulance.
  • Inspect the condition and quality of supplies assigned to the ambulance in accordance with the authorized inventory.
  • Be responsible for restocking of supplies following each run, or as may be necessary.
  • Immediately inform the Paramedic Officer of any deficiencies in the operating condition of the ambulance and/or its related equipment and supplies inventory.
  • Be responsible for the safe operation of the ambulance at all times according to Department Order~/Safety Policy, City of Chicago ordinances and State of Illinois traffic laws, with the safety of the patient,· ambulance personnel and the general public as his/her primary concern.
  • Be responsible for obtaining and compiling current information necessary for the completion of the monthly motor report. Promptly and completely comply with either the standing Medical Orders, or medical orders issued by any authorized telemetry station.
  • Be responsible for any and all duties as directed by the Department's E.M.S. chain of command.
  • Perform any and all cleaning activities required to maintain the ambulance apparatus and its equipment in accordance with departmental standards, at the beginning and as often as may be necessary during his/her tour of duty.
