American Sign Language Interpreter, skilled in motivating and mentoring students of all ages and learning levels, with 20+ years experience and exceptional people skills. Versed in ASL as well as PSE, sign to voice or voice to sign. Desires a full time position as an educational or community sign language interpreter.
Work closely with organizational leadership as well as directors of school districts and ADA compliance departments. Maintain productive, successful relationships with existing clients. Contact, assess skills and knowledge, interview potential sign language interpreters. Oversee interpreters in the field, observe and offer feedback. Visit potential clients for new business. Organize and facilitate professional development opportunities. Maintain interpreting skills and fill in gaps in the field when necessary.
Provided equal access to Deaf students and Staff in a school setting. Collaborate with the Deaf/Hard of Hearing teachers and Special Education staff to provide the best inclusive environment to meet students needs. Interpret classroom activities including, but not limited to lectures, science labs, group activities, athletics (swim/volleyball/soccer), assemblies, graduations, cooking, public transportation training, job shadowing, guest speakers, outdoor lab week, field trips, college visits, etc. Work with students ages five to twenty-one. Interpret staff development for teachers and support staff. Interpret IEP and 504 meetings for Deaf students and/or Deaf parents. Foster self-advocacy in students.
Facilitate communication in a recreational setting for youth programs. Interpret in Sign Language for Deaf students (ages four to twelve) and their parents in soccer, basketball, swim and gymnastics. Work with city staff for adult education programs interpreting for cooking class, crafts, and athletic programs.
