Summary

My husband and I have lived in La Vernia since 1982. We have 2 children and 4 grand children. I taught for 32 years in 3 districts; Fort Bend ISD, Fort Sam Houston ISD, and La Vernia ISD. I continued working by subbing in the public schools because I enjoy teaching. But the best years of my career were as a librarian in La Vernia ISD. I miss reading to children, teaching them about the library, and even the inner workings of the library system. I would like to work in that capacity again. However, family demands require that I don't work every day. Working part time allows me the flexibility to be available to family when necessary.

I attend St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia. I began teaching third grade CCD in 2021 and enjoy it very much. I believe the students have taught me as much or more than I have taught them about faith, the Church, and Jesus Christ.

  • I began subbing because I still enjoy being with children. I was a school librarian and had not been in the classroom for 17 years. I was nervous to return to the classroom but immediately fell back into teaching routines. When I sub I tell my students I have several goals for the day.
  • 1. To keep them safe.
  • 2. To complete as much of the work as possible.
  • 3. To have fun completing all work.
  • 4. My most important goal is that everyone go home with the same smile they walked in with that morning. I tell them to do this we have to treat each other with friendliness and respect.
  • 5. I am a very flexible teacher. If there are no lesson plans available I ask what is currently being taught and write lesson plans that will review and reinforce those objectives.
