Another brief experience, I had to leave due to school starting back up and not being able to align the schedule with my classes. This time I was solely a cook, this kitchen was much more formal than what I had been used to but I loved it. I was in charge of grill and fry, I took great pride in making all of my food quite aesthetically pleasing, the perfect grill marks on the hot dogs, the burger buns perfectly shiny, overall great presentation the chef agreed. It was a great team effort working there everybody worked together in order to make sure food went in a timely manner and everyone also came together at the end of the day giving each other a hand closing down their areas in order to make sure everyone got out in good time.
Another type of restaurant where customers came up to us to order, the kitchen was very small so it was very much just us taking orders then proceeding to turn around and make said order, usually only two workers scheduled at a time, at most three. I was close to becoming a manager at a second location but unfortunately Ida took away that chance after destroying that location. Before then I was being trained up on managerial duties such as hiring, scheduling, and ordering the restock for the kitchen. I was well trained on handling prep work making sure the kitchen was properly stocked for big rushes, divvying up work between me and my scheduled coworkers, cutting someone in a timely manner if things were moving slowly, also handling customer complaints from online orders to in person.
This job was very brief. I was still a minor at the time and was visiting my mom for the summer but it was my first real restaurant experience. It was a kind of place where the customers came up to order and we brought it out to them. So I was in charge of taking orders, getting together their salads, breadsticks, and desserts. I was also the one to bring out their pizza when it was ready making sure I brought the right pizza to the right table. I wiped down tables after customers finished up, stayed late helping close up the store, and standing outside in the FL heat with samples hoping to bring in more customers. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and was told to come back if the opportunity arose.
