Knowledge Skills And Abilities

  • General Engineering; I have been a general engineer for the better part of 20 years. I have lead design teams at the Corps of Engineers who delivered plans and specification for Fish Hatcheries. I have also administered fish culture, habitat, and fish hatchery contracts in a COTR/COR role. I have worked on hatcheries for Cougar Dam, Minto, Foster Dam, John Day Avian Predation projects, and downstream passage projects at Bonneville Dam, trap and haul facilities, upstream passage on the Columbia River and habitat projects like Julia Butler Hanson Wildlife habitat improvements.
  • Problem Solving: I identify problems and determine the accuracy and relevance of information through: Evaluation of facts and stories and parsing those two things out. I use predictive tools to help me identify challenge areas of a project or program. I use tools to evaluate alternatives objectively and make recommendations based on facts, math, and/or science.
  • Project Management; I hold myself and others accountable to measurable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. This is achieved through negotiation with stakeholders, product owners, and team members. My experience as a construction representative gave me the opportunity to practice this skill when millions of dollars and compliance regulation violations were at risk. I use SMART metrics, scope development and creep attenuation, and meaningful schedules to follow progress and track areas of improvement. This skill was useful as the 3 agency Performance Committee Co-Chair for BPA and again compliance and reliability of the system was trying to be improved and enhanced. I accept responsibility for mistakes I make and for failed results. I also ensure to give praise where it is due.
  • Technical Competence; I currently serve as a senior civil engineering expert regarding fish culture, hatchery design, fish passage, and fish habitat projects in EWL. I have been a civil engineer, and served as a technical adviser, expert, and leader for the past 6 years in different roles at Bonneville Power Administration.
