I am responsible for all activities involved in maintaining a fleet of commercially operated single engine aircraft. I perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, upkeep, and maintenance of approximately 13 government owned Cessna and Piper aircraft, which are rented to military and civilian pilots for training, recreation, and TDY travel. These vehicles have set service cycles and life cycle parts which must be managed using FAA approved processes, manufacturers’ technical manuals and service bulletins. I conduct merchant research for mechanical parts and services for these aircraft. I provide mechanical and avionics requirements, specifications, and repair information to the business manager of the RSA Flying Activity for use in budget requests and financial reports.
As the maintenance manager, I strive to determine the most appropriate and efficient manner to provide maintenance and repairs in order to minimize downtime. I plan, coordinate, perform, supervise, and evaluate all maintenance for airframe, power plant, and avionics for this fleet of aircraft. I also project upcoming maintenance requirements and coordinate delivery of needed parts for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, in order to further reduce unavailability. I maintain all aircraft logbooks to record repairs and scheduled services, per FAA standards. I am responsible for maintaining contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airworthiness Inspectors and other aviation support personnel.
As the chief mechanic, I have trained new airplane owners to maintain their aircraft, and trained others who were looking to acquire an A&P license. I have also taught maintenance basics to numerous student pilots. Over the years, I have developed solid relationships with my co-workers, our large and diverse customer base of over 300 pilots, aviation safety personnel, and our instructor pilot staff.
In my current position, I have gained experience with the handling, disposal, and transportation of a variety of hazardous chemicals; I regularly deal with hazardous wastes, such as petroleum products, hydraulic fluid, and paints, in a manner that is compliant with the provisions of the Resource Conversation and Recovery Act. I frequently coordinate with the Redstone Arsenal Chemistry Lab for testing and temporary storage of fluids with very high lead contents.
While at this facility, I was responsible for providing ram service to corporate jets; this included fuel sales and various services for pilots and passengers. As a technician, I installed autopilots and full radio packages into a wide range of general aviation aircraft.
I provided sales assistance and customer service for consumer electronic equipment, ranging from personal handheld radios all the way up to 60 inch flat screen television sets.
I assisted with the daily running of a privately owned Sears store, which included overseeing seven employees, sales and service, inventory maintenance, delivery and installation of appliances.
I maintained product inventory in the meat department and prepared various cuts of meat for sale.
I operated various types of forklifts for transportation of computer hardware throughout the plant and trained new employees for forklift operation. I maintained product inventory for my department, built and operated testbeds to validate computer hard drives before they were shipped.
As owner, I was involved in every aspect of the business. I performed and supervised sales, installations, maintenance and repairs of residential and commercial overhead doors, customer service, and employee training.
