  • On February 28, 2015, my life took a dramatic turn At 17, I was arrested for a gun case and, just three weeks later, charged as an adult for two strong-arm store robberies, despite still being a minor Facing a potential sentence of over 20 years, I was ultimately sentenced to 15 years in prison by age 19
  • My initial time at Solano County Jail was both harsh and isolating Adapting to the tough environment and strict routines was challenging After two years, I was transferred to DVI State Prison, where I encountered a larger and more intense facility Determined to make the most of my situation, I engaged deeply in educational and vocational programs, which provided a sense of purpose and hope
  • A crucial turning point came when I decided to appeal my sentence For two years, I worked diligently on my appeal, driven by the possibilities introduced by Proposition 57 My efforts were rewarded with a successful appeal, leading to re-sentencing at the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) at age 21 Being an adult among younger residents presented unique challenges, but it allowed me to focus on rehabilitation and personal growth
  • Released on April 20, 2022, at age 24, I am now committed to applying the lessons I’ve learned to positively impact others My journey through incarceration has instilled in me a deep commitment to community service and personal development, demonstrating that even the toughest experiences can lead to profound transformation and meaningful change
