- Working for American cruise lines as an engineer I’m the only engineer on board, 24 hours on call 12 hours shifts. Working 6 weeks on 2 weeks off, longest hitch was 2 months. I’m adept on working long hours always doing quality work. Making sure my machinery spaces were clean and organized, and equipment were working properly.
- As the only engineer, all machinery and even part of the staterooms would be my responsibility like from example a toilet that’s clogged or is leaking. Even in the galley, changing a drain pump for a dishwasher or cleaning a grease trap. Also doing oil changes and maintenance on our 3 QSK19-M Cummins engines and 3 X15-DM generators making sure fluids like oil and coolant are topped off. We also have a wastewater treatment system (Innovatreat) on board so making sure chemicals are topped off and pumps and systems are working properly also well.
- Monitored and evaluated engineering performance to recommend improvements.
- Troubleshooting and finding solutions to problems for an example a leaking pump that seal needs to be replaced or bad electrical contactor that needs to be replaced or cleaned.
- Not only am I an engineer but since we are short staffed on board I also do line handling. Calling out distances. Putting out gangway and fenders even getting helm time steering the ship. Doing Coast guard required drills and following station bill duties. So my skills excel in deck work as well.
