In the military, IT system outages are not simple tickets or delays—they pose real threats to national security and mission success.

For three decades, I have operated in environments where communication is not merely a utility but a lifeline. Leading NATO cyber initiatives and serving as Chief of Staff for complex Army commands, I have learned that technology is only as strong as the leadership supporting it.

But one of my biggest lessons did not come from a server room.

It came from serving as the "Mayor" of Fort Detrick. Overseeing 14,000 lives, managing a multimillion-dollar budget, and ensuring the safety of a major military installation during crises - COVID-19 and an Active Shooter incident - taught me that a CI job is not just bits and bytes.

It is about:

• Strategic Resilience: Anticipating the "what if" before it happens.

• Cross-Functional Harmony: Aligning 14,000 different priorities into one mission.

• Cyber Readiness: Building walls that hold under pressure.
