I began working at 13, driven by my parents’ encouragement to become financially literate. My first venture was an online reselling business using the OfferUp platform, where I sold various items, including baseball caps, phone cases, and dresses. I managed customer communication, negotiated prices, and coordinated efficient deliveries.
At 14, I started working at the Castro Valley Farmers Market for Flatbread Queen, a Concord-based company. Every weekend, I woke up at 5 AM to travel to the warehouse, calculate inventory based on customer demand and weather conditions, and prepare products for transport. At the market, I handled setup, customer engagement, and sales. This role strengthened my ability to perform quick mental math, develop persuasive sales techniques, process cash and digital payments, and effectively communicate with customers and vendors. After nearly four years with Flatbread Queen, I’ve decided to seek new opportunities to expand my work experience.
Around the same time, I began babysitting for family and friends, where I developed patience and adaptability, essential skills when working with children. More recently, after turning 18, I took on a caregiving role for my grandmother, assisting her with daily needs such as meals, medication, and hygiene. While she maintains some independence, my caregiving hours are limited, and I am now looking for a new job to utilize my available time effectively.
