Kidz Club is a pediatric skilled nursing facility that provides care for children with complex medical needs, ranging in age from newborns to 21 years old. In this setting, I assist with the daily care and safety of pediatric patients to support their health, comfort, and development. My responsibilities include performing routine diaper changes and hygiene care on an hourly basis, assisting with feeding by providing breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and supporting mobility and positioning needs. I regularly assist children who use wheelchairs by transferring them into standers to promote proper positioning, circulation, and musculoskeletal development. Throughout my role, I follow safety protocols and work closely with the nursing staff to ensure each child’s individual care plan is met.
In Labor and Delivery, I assisted with vaginal deliveries by preparing and maintaining a sterile field prior to delivery. Following birth, I collected umbilical cord blood specimens for laboratory analysis, assisted with postpartum patient care, including cleaning and repositioning, and ensured the placenta and umbilical cord were properly labeled and sent to the laboratory. I also obtained maternal vital signs, including temperatures every two hours, and responded to patient needs to promote comfort, safety, and continuity of care. In the OBED unit clerk role, I was responsible for rooming patients, completing registration, and facilitating rapid patient flow, so that nurses and providers could begin assessment and treatment without delay. This role required effective communication, prioritization, and organization in a fast-paced obstetric emergency setting.
In this role, I received patient handoff reports from the night shift to ensure continuity of care. I provided comprehensive patient care, including assisting with bathing and hygiene, feeding patients who required assistance, and helping patients with toileting needs, including ambulation to the bathroom, brief changes, and bedpan use. I routinely obtained and documented vital signs every two hours and repositioned patients every two hours to promote comfort, prevent skin breakdown, and maintain circulation. I also assisted nursing staff with patient care tasks as needed to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
