Work History
One-On-One Adult Literacy Tutor Volunteer
Los Angeles Public Library
Panorama City, CA
01.2024 - Current
I volunteer weekly at Panorama City Public Library, as an English Second Language Tutor for native Spanish speakers.
I teach lessons based on a curriculum provided by Intercambio's Confidence and Connections, which is a program that provides resources for tutors to teach English.
Lessons are based on a set of books that come in 6 level difficulties and include writing activities, phonics practice, and learning English vocabulary.
At the end of each session, homework is assigned and is reviewed the following week.
I upload monthly progress logs to the Los Angeles Public Library, within the first week of each month to discuss the weaknesses, strengths, and goals achieved for each learner for the preceding month.
Food Pantry Volunteer
AIDS Project Los Angeles Health
North Hollywood, CA
01.2023 - Current
AIDS Project Los Angeles Health is an organization that focuses on providing services and support for underserved low-income LGBTQ+ communities, and people diagnosed with HIV throughout Los Angeles County since 1985.
Their objective is to expand their services in order to make various health and social services accessible to its targeted communities.
I volunteer at 1 of 15 APLA Healths' food banks on behalf of their Vance North Necessities of Life Program, which is the nation's largest network of food pantries for people living with HIV and or AIDS.
I prepare about 80 bagged kits per shift that include grocery, hygiene, and or cleaning supplies which are loaded to a truck to be delivered to designated locations throughout underserved communities in Los Angeles.
Student Clinical Research Assistant
University of California, Irvine Medical Center
Orange, CA
04.2023 - 06.2024
I was an undergraduate research assistant under University of California, Irvine's Bio Sci 199 program which is an opportunity for students to participate in research for a principal investigator's laboratory while also earning graded units for participation.
The laboratory I participated in conducts clinical research within the Pediatric department for the University of California, Irvine's School of Medicine. This position was on-site at UCI Medical Center.
The goal is to investigate the interplay of maternal psychological and metabolic stress during pregnancy upon child fat mass development and cellular metabolism.
My responsibilities included providing office support, as well as assistance during participant visits and laboratory procedures. For participant visits, I recorded patient data and transported specimens to our laboratory and assisted in the processing of those specimens. Office hours consisted of support such as patient data entry to our database, and the assembly of collection kits provided to Labor and Delivery for the collection of participant specimens during labor.
Pre-Medicine Student Volunteer Program
Cedars Sinai Medical Center
Beverly Hills, CA
09.2023 - 12.2023
Cedars Sinai Medical Center offers an opportunity for volunteers with a minimum of 100 hours, to shadow physicians in an assigned specialty for the 3 month rotation.
The application and acceptance process to the program is designed to mimic that of medical school where applicants upload transcripts, GPA, list extracurricular activities, and answer the prompt question, "Why do you want to be a doctor?" Requests for group interviews of 4-5 individuals are conducted where 1-2 from each group are selected to participate for a total of 22 participants.
Participants are provided with a physician specialty list and are requested to rank in order the specialties they are most interested in, of which Pain Management was assigned to me.
Weekly mandatory meetings were held with all participants, where our program leader would invite a physician with a particular specialty to discuss their journey in medicine and to answer questions we may have. During our meetings, students had the opportunity to share with one another details about our shadowing sessions during the week.
Transformative Care at Bedside Volunteer
Cedars Sinai Medical Center
Beverly Hills, CA
12.2022 - 09.2023
Weekly shifts were assigned to me at my designated nursing station within the Universal unit.
My responsibilities include visiting patient room to fulfill requests, answering patient calls and directing the appropriate staff for the request, and providing assistance requested by healthcare employees and or visitors. Also, I stock personal protective equipment in carts that are located outside each patient room.
As I complete my tasks, I log all activities fulfilled on a tracking sheet provided at the start of my shift and turn it in at the end of my day at the Volunteer Services department.
Retail Associate
HomeGoods
Studio City, CA
06.2020 - 07.2022
HomeGoods is a retail store owned by TJX Companies which focuses on the sales of essential home items such as furniture, kitchenware, and decor.
During my first 5 months of employment, I was primarily a cashier and afterwards transitioned to a position in the shipping department where I would process incoming shipments by unboxing merchandise on a conveyor belt, and placing those items on carts to be taken by other employees for stocking the store.
