I am a highly motivated team player with a passion for teaching and learning. My desire to teach blind children was sparked by a relationship with a blind infant's family when I was in high school. I possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with others for the benefit of providing a well-rounded, relevant educational experience to students.
Worked as a team member with other TVIs, O&M teachers and assistants to deliver instruction to approximately 30 students ages 3-22 throughout Elk Grove Unified School District.
2000- 2021-Attended trainings pertinent to blind students in Sacramento, CA, San Francisco, CA, Fremont, CA and Taylor Michigan.
2018-2019 Presented trainings to preschool staff, OT staff and VI colleagues on Active Learning.
2018-2019 Organized and held two "make & take" workshops on Active Learning.
2018 Presented Integrated Preschool staff about Blind children's development.
2015-2021 Observed and assessed children in person and over Zoom as a mutidisciplinary team member of the Integrated Preschool Assessment Center staff.
Throughout my employment, I attended bi-annual conferences for TVIs, an Active Learning Conference, activities at Sacramento Society for the Blind and Handwriting without Tears workshops for Preschool and kindergarten level children.
I presented a preschool workshop for parents and VI staff at CTEBVI in 2018 along with two of my students' parents.
Working with students of all abilities, and levels of visual impairment in both their home and school environments
Collaborating with other Educational Specialists and Teachers in order to educate the whole child
Networking with TVIs in my department and throughout California to provide low vision "Zoom friends" for students during the COVIS-19 pandemic
Participating in a mutidisciplinary team to assess incoming three-year-olds for Special Education services
Educating others about the role of TVIs as it relates to school-based services, including Program Specialists, Teachers and upper administration
Providing trainings to Special Education personnel on Active Learning for multi-impaired blind students
