My area of expertise is dementia. I have 21 years of experience in this specialty area, receiving the secretary of the VA’s Award For Nurse Excellence, based on my dementia skills.
I was also recommended to be on the LPN shared governance committee, and the Falls committee.
I take great pride in being a patient Advocate. One would hard pressed to find a population of patient more vulnerable than a patient with dementia, yet every patient deserves the highest quality of care, which often necessitates a great advocate.
I am also a family advocate. The health care of a loved one can be so scary and incredibly overwhelming. To take the time and calmly obtain information and explain things families have concerns about, and to actively listen to their fears and concerns goes such a long way in determining a plan of care, as well as determining what areas need more education.
My goal is to always make sure that no patient or family member is “without a voice.” This is the greatest honor of my life.
