Summary

I have been involved in the Equine Assisted Services industry since 2002 when I started as a volunteer with Pegasus Therapeutic Riding. I am proud of my longevity and dedication to this special field of work. I enjoy all aspects of teaching therapeutic riding and horsemanship as well as coordinating a dynamic team of volunteers to support our programs!

Volunteer Coordinator

Recruit and train new volunteers for side walking, leading and horse handling roles. Place trained volunteers in appropriate positions each session. Communicate regularly with active volunteers, trouble shooting to reconcile scheduling conflicts and program needs.

Integrate seasonal interns from local high schools and colleges to support our barn and lesson program.

Outreach to local high school guidance counselors about our volunteer opportunities.

Coordinate yearly volunteer appreciation events such as thank you card writing by staff, and social gatherings at the farm.

Recruit and train volunteers at 2 off-site locations.

Maintain engagement of volunteers through personal outreach and rewarding longevity with recognition on social media and in newsletters.

Instruct mounted and unmounted private and group lessons for special needs participants varying in age and ability. Assist with new rider evaluations; assist with scheduling rider / horse/ volunteer teams.

Instruct unmounted horsemanship lessons for school groups from the special needs community.

Manage 2 off-site locations by evaluating appropriate participants and horses and by scheduling volunteers to support these programs. Instruct both unmounted and mounted therapeutic lessons at each site.

Facilitate a specialized trauma/PTSD program for First Responders and Veterans (unmounted).

Facilitate corporate group volunteers in a therapeutic horsemanship experience.
