My husband and I made/built furniture, wood crafts, leather bags, and many other items. We traveled as vendors to set up at various places, selling our products. My husband and I built a home repair & remodeling business, by word of mouth. This was prior to social media. We did a few small jobs. Word of mouth built our reputation after that, for good solid work, honesty and work ethics. We worked side by side in most all phases of home repair. That would start by meeting with a prospective customer, understanding their needs, and putting together a bid of material costs and labor for them. We had as few as just he and I, up to a crew of 10 men over the years. I did all the tax reporting that occurs with employees. I also managed payroll weekly for all employees, withholding the appropriate taxes with each, then forwarded those amounts to the IRS. All while also learning, doing, and running a crew, in the field of carpentry.
