Toyota Camry Engine Removal and Inspection – 1998 Model Automatic Transmission and Transaxle Class

Role: Hands-on Technician

Overview:

Successfully removed, disassembled, and inspected the engine of a 1998 Toyota Camry as part of a comprehensive engine repair course. Performed a full suite of diagnostic tests prior to removal and followed manufacturer service procedures to ensure accuracy and avoid critical errors.

Technical Skills & Procedures:

● Pre-Removal Diagnostics:

○ Performed engine vacuum gauge testing to assess overall engine health.

○ Conducted compression and leakdown tests to evaluate cylinder sealing and pinpoint internal wear.

● Disassembly & Measurement Techniques:

○ Used feeler gauges to measure valve clearances.

○ Applied Plastigage to measure bearing clearances.

○ Employed a degree wheel to determine precise timing of intake

and exhaust valve opening/closing events.

○ Carefully followed OEM service procedures for safe and
