As a journeyman you are put through rigorous training and schooling. It takes 5 years to become a journeyman. You are in a high pressure high demand atmosphere. I generally oversee a crew of at least 15 individuals, all with different jobs to do. We offer complete installation of sprinkler systems from overhead systems, wet systems, and dry systems to FM200 systems. We have to carry many certifications throughout various states in order to perform our jobs. We must work with a variety of different trade workers in order to reach our goal in an expedient manner. We inspect and maintain the systems we install throughout the life of the system. We are constantly going back to school to learn new aspects of our trade in order to keep a safe and efficient workplace.

• Maintained records on all work performed in accordance with NFPA standards.
• Performed code-required testing of fire protection systems to ensure proper functioning.
• Provided technical assistance to apprentices learning the trade.

I worked in an 800 bed facility that dealt with patients needing acute to skilled care. Responsiblities included living routines such as bathing, eating, and dressing. Our goal was to provide the type of atmosphere that prompted healthy and happy behaviors.

• Observed and reported unusual symptoms and changes to charge nurse.
