CURRENTLY MAINTAINING THE PFT LAB/ PERFORMING PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTING AT THE DAYTON VA MEDICAL CENTER FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS 40 HOURS PER WEEK AT OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE LEVEL.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Calibrates, operates, records, and obtains data for Plethysmograph equipment. Knowledge of complex pulmonary function testing and stress /exercise testing. Ability to treat acute complications for all pulmonary function testing.
• explains and demonstrates to patients the nature of the test they will be performing; positions and
observes patient during the actual test
• Conducts and repeats, if necessary, such tests as arterial blood gas punctures, spirometry with and without bronchodilators, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, airway resistance, methacholine/exercise challenge testing, six minute walk testing.
• Maintains supply inventory and submits supply requests
• Calculates the results of the tests from the data collected
• Prepares and completes all paperwork related to patient's exam and enters information into designated information systems
• Performs and/or assists the physician in conducting advanced tests of pulmonary functions
• Maintains cleanliness and order in the department following the guidelines of JCAHO, IDPH and Infection Control.
• Reports all equipment malfunctions and places call for repair when necessary.
• Calls and assists with a medical code when/ If necessary.
• Participates in emergency drills and responds to disaster requests
• Performs related duties as assigned / research new PFT techniques and assist with policy for the lab.
