Work as news editor, as well as several stints as interim editor. Tasks involve editing and writing local stories, columns and headlines; coordinating coverage of local events by reporters and photographer; designing and making pages; selecting state, national and international stories for publication; and writing, editing, publishing, and updating stories for the newspaper's website.

Began work as general assignment reporter, promoted to county reporter within a month and later to education reporter. Wrote features, hard-news stories on local people and events, local crime, and the Oak Ridge and Anderson County schools, as well as Roane State Community College, Pellissippi State Community College, and the University of Tennessee.

Worked for nearly two years as a stringer for The Clinton Courier News, later renamed The Courier News, covering the Lake City area. Wrote stories on the town council, features, and the two local schools.

Three-month internship in the public information office at the TVA twin towers in Knoxville. Wrote copy and recorded a daily news telephone line service for employees; wrote stories for in-house newspaper.
