Accomplished professional within the utility industry with more than 30 years of experience at Asplundh Tree Expert Company, PECO & ComEd. Collectively over my career, I have had the responsibility for more than 1,000 employees and more than $1 billion in Capital and O & M budgets. I have been a part of 24/7 operations my entire career and understand the importance of keeping the lights on and gas flowing for the customers and the communities we serve.
Design, implement and orchestrate all aspects of the PA Act 129 Energy Efficiency portfolio. This is a ~$420M spend over the 5-year phase. PECO achieved over 1,380,000 MWh of total savings over the course of the phase to be in compliance with the Public Utility Commission (PUC). Non-compliance in any given year and/or at the end of the phase may result in up to a $20M fine and impact the company’s reputation.
* Provide energy efficiency solutions within the confines of the established plan to residential, commercial, industrial, low income and municipal customers.
* Competitively bid and awarded two of the largest tier one/two diversity spend contracts within PECO by utilizing CMC Energy Services and DNV.
* Maintain and continue to grow relationships with trade allies who implement the energy solutions.
Select Accomplishments:
* Successfully completed phase 3 which was significantly behind when I came into role by implementing strong project management principles and strategic leadership skills.
* Leveraged contract management experience/skills to amend 12 existing contracts that had to be approved by the PUC prior to the end of phase 3.
o Led the development, submission, and successful approval of a phase 4 major and minor plan changes due to market conditions and the City of Philadelphia’s major street light project.
Provided leadership to field and back office related operations for over 340 personnel who maintain the integrity of the aerial and underground electric infrastructure. Interface with key stakeholders both internally and externally as the primary representative for the regions.
* Primary objective is to maintain excellence in safety performance in the field and back-office.
* Develop and implement strategies to ensure the safe, reliable delivery of electric to ~700,000 customers.
* Improve and sustain positive customer satisfaction results at all levels.
* Efficiently manage over $90M annually in preventive and corrective work via PECO and contracted resources.
Select Accomplishments:
* Successfully managed Papal Visit, DNC and NFL Draft
* Sponsor of 3 successful underground schools and 2 aerial schools resulting in more than 100 new field employees.
* Lead for cross company, full fleet implementation of Telematics on over 1,400 drivable units
* Initiated and developed strategy for annual company celebrations at 8 sites to accommodate ~2,300 employees.
Develop strategy and provide leadership to a staff of 27 professionals who collaboratively manage over $160M in major projects and contracted services annually. Manage relations and performance of major contractors of choice that provide high volume/high exposure services to PECO.
Project Management
* Responsible for the successful implementation and execution of major distribution, transmission and substation projects (greater than $500K) within PECO.
* Accountable for meeting all project work scopes, schedules, budgets, and developing contingency plans.
* Achieve total program spend within 2% of forecast at year-end with monthly variance of +/- 5%.
* 2007-2009 portfolio – Total $360M, successfully completed 180+ projects.
Contract Management
* Responsible for the performance management of 16 major contractors (field forces of more than 1,000 people) who account for large volume spend ($10M direct/$100M budgeted in regions/T & S) or high exposure services.
Vegetation Management
* Responsible for the development and implementation of the 5-year distribution and transmission strategic plans to improve electric reliability, reduce long-term costs, and meet regulatory commitments.
* Define/implement work plans with associated benefits for 27 budgeted line items totaling over $35M annually.
Fleet Services (January – June 2008)
Responsible for securing and maintaining a reliable, cost effective and environmentally sound fleet of over 1,400 trucks, trailers, vehicles and equipment that is used across the PECO service territory.
Develop and implement comprehensive Utility Vegetation Management programs at PECO & ComEd that achieve reliability and cost goals while meeting regulatory commitments and customer satisfaction objectives. Ensure standardized policies, procedures, metrics and data/financial tools are in place and used to manage the business effectively post Exelon Way.
* Aligned two significantly different Vegetation Management Programs by implementing an incentive-based contracting strategy resulting in documented costs savings of $2M+ annually and limiting Exelon risk.
* Developed a comprehensive database (recognized as best-in-class by 2007 PAPUC Audit) that is used by in-house and contractor personnel to monitor and manage the $85M annual program spends.
* Achieved best ever safety performance record for Asplundh Tree Expert Company at ComEd in 2006.
