Rigger, WG8 Step 2

  • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed while setting up and operating rigging systems.
  • Coordinated with other trades personnel to ensure smooth operations during projects.
  • Identified potential hazards associated with the use of cranes or rigging components.
  • Inspected crane rigging components to ensure they met safety standards.
  • Inspected and maintained inventory of all slings, chains, ropes and shackles.

Crane Operator/Rigger

Entrec
Williston, ND
10.2017 - 04.2020
  • Performed daily inspections of all crane components prior to use.
  • Positioned blocks and outrigger pads securely prior to operating a mobile crane.
  • Maintained crane operations logs and records of maintenance activities.
  • Loaded and unloaded material from trucks and other vehicles using the crane.
  • Confirmed that all personnel are clear from the area before moving a load with the crane.
  • Verified that all safety devices are functioning properly before each shift.
  • Worked closely with riggers to ensure proper load handling techniques were used during lifts.
  • Operated cranes up to 15-ton carry decks, 110-ton truck-mounted boom trucks, 300-ton mobile cranes, 80-ton telescopic crawlers, and up to 440-ton lattice boom crawler cranes. From manufacturers such as Link-Belt, Grove, and Liebherr. I was proficient in reading the load and range charts to confirm that any load to pick and set was within the safe working limit of the crane.
  • Operated/rigged in complex, critical lifts on a daily basis, from single crane to tandem lifts, as well as personal lifts at heights of 200-220 ft, and filled out rigorous critical lift safety job briefing documentation.
  • While operating in North Dakota, the availability of certified techs was many times hours or even days away. Given the environment that we subjected our cranes to—washboard roads, arctic cold down to 60 below, and dust storms that completely blocked vision and got into every compartment possible—these conditions caused issues with the crane that made it so I had to be proficient in narrowing down the problem, whether electrical, computer, hydraulic, motor, structural, or anything that would stop the safe function of the crane. And relaying to the techs what parts are needed to repair or possibly diagnose the crane. Reading crane codes and finding appropriate fuses and relays to get a crane into a safe position, away from active work and hazards.
  • I took charge of our two-way radio programming to make sure all of our cranes and portables for each crane were programmed and working. I worked with our vendors and customers to keep them updated on our channels, and to get them the operation managers' required permissions needed per the FCC.
  • While in the Watford City yard, I lived 15 ft from the shop, and assisted the crane mechanic at every chance to help repair the cranes. Items that I've assisted with include the replacement of main sheaves and auxiliary sheaves, respooling of main and auxiliary lines, replacing the steering control arm that got damaged from turning in soft ground on an all-terrain crane, and installing the operator cab. Pulling off outriggers and replacing cylinders and sensor lines, climbing into the boom to remove the communication cable that had gotten pulled in during an operation in the wind. As well as assisting in numerous regular services to keep cranes in working order.
  • While also being at that yard, I was the operator mostly chosen to assist the crane certifier with his task of doing our annual crane certifications.

The majority of jobs were oil field-related, but various jobs included general construction work to build the city of Williston. Various tasks included invoicing, sales calls, training crew members, scoping jobs for cranes, and getting detailed reports to the crane company's managed crew list and equipment. Crane Rigger

IE Miller
Williston, ND
01.2009 - 03.2010
  • Performed regular maintenance on cranes and related machinery.
  • Coordinated with other trades personnel to ensure smooth operations during projects.
  • Adhered strictly to OSHA standards when performing lift operations.
  • Identified potential hazards associated with the use of cranes or rigging components.
  • Inspected crane rigging components to ensure they met safety standards.
  • Trained and monitored junior crane operators, communicating tasks clearly and giving regular, constructive feedback.
  • Signaled and verbally directed workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to protect workers and materials.
  • I worked on an aged Grove TM120 crane with limited company funds and available parts. I had to replace the O-rings on the valve block on a biweekly basis, as well as crawl into the boom to reset cables on the live fly section to restore it to workable order. I also worked on and assisted in replacing the planetary axles on the crane as well.
  • The other crane I rigged on was a lattice boom truck-mounted Link-Belt crane. While installing pins in lattice sections and pendant lines, I had to keep the operator updated and informed on the condition of all ends and possible wear points during travel to keep the crane in safe working order.
  • In the year rigging, right out of high school, I was able to gain the knowledge and rapport with my coworkers and management to be put into a truck pusher/Rig Move Supervisor position at the age of 19, all the while being able to work under high-stress, long-hour, dangerous environments, while keeping safety standards at an all-time high compared to other supervisors at the same level. I would always prioritize the safe movement of all equipment over the rushed and dangerous work of many of the others I worked with.
