As the Manager, of Spiritual Care Services I provided leadership and supervision for Staff Chaplains and Associate Chaplains, as well as coordinating any volunteer or educational opportunities that serve the Spiritual Care mission. As the Manager, of Spiritual Care Services I was responsible for developing and implementing procedures and care provided by the department and for the professional supervision and oversight of the chaplains’ professional practice. This includes ensuring accountability that chaplains are providing appropriate excellent care and within the scope of service for patients and their families, in the eight-county area that we serve as well as coordinating staff support for healthcare colleagues in the hospice and palliative care settings. This position is responsible for assuring service excellence, compliance with all applicable organization and departmental policies, and laws/regulations, and ensuring that Big Bend Hospice Spiritual Care Services is connected with the broader field of chaplaincy to remain up to date on current research and best practices. This position is also responsible for the implementation and evaluation of performance improvement projects and related data, clinical procedures, protocols, research, and collegial staff education regarding the effective utilization of spiritual care in the end-of-life environment. As the manager of spiritual care I was responsible for the hiring and development of new employees, the education and mentoring of chaplains, managing triage and night chaplain schedules, and providing direct patient care as needed. This position is responsible to the Director of Coordinated Care.
