Work History

Tax Examiner

The Department of the Treasurer
01.2008 - Current
  • As a Rejects Tax Examiner, I analyze, correct, and communicate various tax issues
  • To resolve those issues, I communicate with both internal customers (TAS Advocates, Unpostables Lead Tax Examiners, and Managers) and external customers (Taxpayers) by PROVIDING ADVICE AND PREPARING REPORT NARRATIVES AND BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
  • As a result of my effective communication skills, I have received many praises for providing TAS Advocates (TA) with timely detailed information regarding their request; closing cases before deadlines; communicating with them when problems occur and they are out of my scope of correction; and encouraging and inspiring them to achieve excellence in all they do
  • For example, in addition to my other duties as a TE, TAS OARs are a priority and must be completed before the requested deadline
  • During our weekly briefing, the Rejects Work Leader communicates to my team several issues concerning effective communication between TEs and TAs
  • I continue to receive EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION recognition for TAS reports
  • I am asked to share my skills with the team: I shared the templates I created to maximize my time responding to TAs requests through their TAS OARs
  • Using these templates reduces time spent responding to TAS OARs by 30%, allowing me more research time on cases
  • This allows me to provide TAs with more details about a particular case while welcoming and answering questions
  • I have experience in assisting taxpayers in technical and procedural tax cases covering the full range of cases and issues while concentrating on those with the most complicated or specialized factors
  • I take corrective action within ERS-Rejects statutory and delegated authorities, including responding timely to recommended deadlines
  • I confer with the taxpayer, via written Tax Payer Notices, who has experienced systemic issues, and tax application errors
  • I educate taxpayers and their representatives regarding tax obligations, responsibilities, rights, and options, including possible adverse consequences of decisions

The Department of the Treasurer
