Oversee the placement committee process, assists in developing and implementing assessment practices and policies affecting programs for exceptional children; interprets educational policies and procedures for various audiences.
Oversee the process of ensuring that each exceptional student is counted for reimbursement purposes.
Supports principals and school staff in the screening and selection of exceptional children staff.

Reads various publications and attends various workshops, seminars, etc., to continuously upgrade professional knowledge.
Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding exceptional children.

Considerable knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations, and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, and district policies.
Monitor and conduct the Initial, Annual Review and Reevaluation process.
Knowledge of how to successfully perform December 1/April 1 Child Counts.
Work to diligently work to ensure Exceptional Children (EC) Continuous Improvement Performance Plan (CIPP) compliance.
Implement special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of handicapping conditions.
Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
Create Individualized Education Plans for students, as well as determine their Annual and short-term goals/objectives.
