Navy veteran with 8 years of service, honorably discharged, and with one year and six months of sea time onboard USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group combat deployments from January 2011 to July 2011, and March 2012 to November 2012 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in the Persian Gulf and the Horn of Africa. On board tasks included basic seamanship, replenishment at sea, man overboard, aircraft crash and salvage, aviation combat operations ground crew, shore patrol watch, hangarbay and flightdeck safety rover, and aviation weapon systems maintainer.
Performed deckhand duties onboard ocean going tugboat for two week rotation which includes cleaning several times during a 12 hour watch period, preparing three meals a day, and assisting the captain, mate, and engineer as needed.
Assisted in the preparation of securing towing wire, pushgear, and mooring of a 200 feet long container barge from Norfolk International Terminal to Richmond Marine Terminal twice a week.
Performed basic corrosion control on tugboat which includes grinding, chipping paint, applying Safeguard Marine paint on handrails, bulkheads, and weatherdeck as required.
Conducted daily engine room safety and fire prevention rounds every hour, and wrote down caterpillar engine 35-12E Tier 4, 3000 HP gauge readings every three hours while underway.
Provided assistance to the mate of the watch with safe operation and navigation of vessel, and lookout duties everyday while underway for 12 hours a day as backwatch deckhand.
Completed safety checks for life ring equipment onboard the tugboat as required via SBA company website maintenance schedule, received supplies, and updated inventory of stores and cleaning supplies as ordered.
Conducted and expedited explosive safety and inventory audits once a month for internal facilities and 4 squadron ammunition stock inspections every 7 days for 2 hours a day.
Assigned crew watch stations every week ranging from sentry watches, perimeter security check lookout, and explosive route watch stander every hour, one once a week as command duty day officer.
Organized crew readiness checks for natural disaster mitigation, damage control for 12 explosives and 2 administrative buildings during inclement weather conditions as required.
Performed explosive safety inspection programs for 12 weapon storage facilities and administration buildings to achieve 98% inventory accuracy of aviation ammunition.
Assisted command firefighting drill evacuation, safety training, assisting base fire chief with periodical inspections of fire control panel to ensure optimal operation of fire suppression system in accordance with naval and firefighting regulations.
Facilities manager in charge of upkeep and maintenance of 12 weapon storage buildings, and 2 administrative locations, including escorting and assisting Naval Facilities Command repair personnel as request via work orders, by direction of Naval Facilities Command or Officer in Charge every week.
Performed daily visual and integrity inspection of unleaded gasoline 500 gallon above storage tank for use in heating every day for 365 days a year.
