Lead Process Assistant
Amazon ONT2 , LAX9 /SBD3 Cross-Dock
Fontana/ San Bernardino, CA
01.2012 - 09.2020
During the building launch, I provided comprehensive support to associates, removing barriers and fostering productivity and quality. Through coaching and accountability measures, I ensured that all team members were performing at their best.
A key responsibility involved promptly identifying and resolving freight jams by determining if specific freight sizes were the root cause. This allowed for timely resolution and minimized disruptions to operations.
For the initial three months of launch, I successfully managed and operated the dock, manual pallets, and robots until the arrival of a Dock A.M. I also assumed shift management duties during the latter half of the day, training internal staff on administrative processes, work instructions, and procedures to ensure smooth and consistent company operations.
To streamline inventory tracking, I created a QR code check-in system for scanners, eliminating the risk of losing inventory data during shifts. Additionally, I developed laminated filters to simplify destination changes and eliminate the need for handwritten signs.
A strong emphasis was placed on driving safety within the department. I implemented daily cleanliness audits, introduced manual pallet audit sheets, and created maps of the facility to support the upkeep of 5S areas. Furthermore, I established an Outbound Spotlight Monitor program to recognize top performers in manual pallets, RWC, and the dock.
Collaborating with the RME team, I facilitated the installation of water bottle holders on poles in manual pallet areas to mitigate spill or trip hazards. Additionally, I developed an Andon system for manual pallets, enabling water spiders to efficiently pick up pallets and problem solvers to assist associates in a timely manner.
During peak operations, our AFE team achieved an impressive record of zero safety recordables/occupational incidents, resulting in significant cost savings of over $65,000 for each potential workers' compensation case in the state of California.
Notable achievements during peak periods include processing a record-breaking 120,433 units on Cyber Monday at a rate of 215 UPH and achieving a total finished rate of 114.4% with a rate of 204.2 UPH. Similarly, on Black Friday, we processed 115,020 units at a rate of 201 UPH, achieving a total finished rate of 107.8% with a rate of 193.2 UPH.
To improve efficiency, I implemented a dedicated 5S location in AFE for wireless scanner batteries, resulting in a 15% rate increase. Additionally, I organized weekly "Stepping Up to Leadership" classes for all shifts, fostering team-building and professional development among process assistants.
Throughout my tenure, I propelled the AFE team to rank consistently as one of the top performers within the network during peak periods. I also devised an effective routing destination tag system for lost totes, significantly reducing dwell time and ensuring accurate routing.
Within ICQA, I conducted daily cycle counts and handled amnesty bins and damaged items. I liaised with the hazmat team to address damages and managed vendor returns for liquidation and donations.
In the Fresh department, I established a dedicated Fresh Drop-off zone to prevent misplacement of paper pick items, streamlining operations and maintaining product integrity.
Addressing a concern in the AFE pack area, I worked diligently to replace unsanitary padded scanner holsters with updated, individualized holsters for each team member, ensuring a clean and hygienic work environment.
Since 2017, I have successfully led Safety Blitz initiatives, planning and executing safety measures in collaboration with all departments.
In 2014, I was promoted to Lead Process Assistant and became a member of Amazon's first Safety Committee at ONT 2. Together with the General Manager, I addressed unsafe pick mod issues and ensured adherence to safety protocols across the board.
