Conduct investigations, prepare documentation, and complete internal Correctional cases as delegated by the Internal Affairs Lieutenant. Interview witnesses and suspects to gather information pertinent to cases. Analyze data gathered during investigation to determine the validity of claims. Follow up on leads obtained through interviews or other sources. Develop strategies for gathering additional evidence or intelligence related to cases. Prepare detailed reports summarizing investigative activities and results. Organize and maintain files of all investigative activities. Attend training sessions to stay current on new investigative trends and technologies. Adhere to departmental policies regarding investigations and reporting procedures. Monitor daily activities to identify and manage suspicious behavior, improper conduct and signs of conflict. Trained and operates state of the art body scanning machine to identify any contraband individuals might attempt to introduce to the correctional facility.
Employ de-escalation techniques, verbal commands and physical and mechanical restraints to address unruly individuals in custody. Inform individuals in custody and visitors of rules, safety and security procedures and responsibilities. Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and prison grounds to detect contraband or illegal activities. Perform security checks on visitors entering the facility as well as on packages being delivered to inmates. Respond to emergency situations such or disturbances with appropriate force measures. Investigate incidents involving prisoners or staff to determine who was responsible for any violations of policies or procedures. Assist in training new Correctional Officers in proper safety protocols and techniques for dealing with difficult situations. Prepare detailed reports documenting all relevant information related to daily operations at the correctional facility. Transport prisoners between facilities or court hearings using secure vehicles equipped with restraints.
