Game officials support the vision, mission and values of CYO Athletics:

• Encourage and allow for the pre-game prayer, sportsmanship handshake, pre-event statement.
• Maintain safety of participants by either making calls or proactive officiating;
• Educate the players, coaches and fans by effectively communicating calls – appropriately using hand signals or verbal communication.
• Place a high priority on sportsmanship – not tolerating inappropriate language or trash talking.
• Encouraging the coach to manage their fans if necessary. Coaches have primary responsibility for managing the behavior of their fans, but game officials are empowered to enforce the CYO Athletics Unsportsmanlike Conduct rule:
• Communicate effectively and instruct as appropriate so that players both develop and have fun.
• Completes game/match day duties in a timely, appropriate, effective manner as determined by both onsite and online evaluations by staff and volunteers of CYO Athletics.

Game officials display professionalism:

• Know and enforce the governing body sport rules as well as CYO Athletics specific rules.
• Officials should legibly print their name and sign scorebooks/scoresheets for both teams;
• Officials should display professionalism by arriving on time, using proper officiating mechanics and rotations, dressing appropriately, and maintaining objectivity throughout competition.
• Responsible for starting the game on time, but not at the expense of the pre-game prayer;
• Officials, coaches and/or captains should use pre-game/match meeting as an opportunity to discuss points of emphasis, CYO Athletics specific rules and any special circumstances;
• Game officials are empowered to remove any official scorekeeper and/or timekeeper at any time during the game for reasons of incompetence or any other reason which they consider to be good and sufficient. In this event, the officials may appoint anyone they feel is capable;
• Game officials are asked to fill out and submit a report to their supervisor in case of a circumstance that will require follow up from CYO Athletics.
