  • Laboratory work including: performing several trials to test for the presence of bacteria (total and fecal coliforms) in water in order to come up with a systematic protocol of the procedure; preparation of cultural media, setting up and using the Buchner apparatus, placing the samples in the incubators, and counting the colonies with the bacteria counter
  • Using the ion exchange chromatograph (IC) and atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) to determine the presence and concentrations of certain ions in water
  • I prepared standard solutions of known concentrations for each ion, inserted them into the instruments in order to construct calibration curves for further determination of concentrations of specific ions in water samples, and wrote a detailed manual for IC and a protocol for AAS for further applications
  • Performing titration on a set of given field water samples with HCl solution of a known concentration in order to determine the HCO3- concentration in the given samples
  • I wrote a protocol on titration for further applications in the Geology Laboratory
  • Additional work done: helped with the set-up of a fluorometer in a spring and measured the samples’ fluorescence (in ppm)
  • Rearranged glassware, machines, and laboratory tools, and prepared a complete lab inventory of all items
