• Planned, organized, and directed the activities of ESL/EFL instructors assigned to the Language Training Branch, Workforce Development Division at the Ship Repair Facility- Japan Regional Maintenance Center (SRF-JRMC) on US Naval Base in Yokosuka and at Detachment Sasebo, Japan.
• During the COVID-19 pandemic, planned, organized, and directed the staff and English Language Training program during phases of 100% teleworking and hybrid schedules.
• Supervised SRF-JRMC personnel assigned to the Language Training Branch in Yokosuka and in Sasebo, Japan. Staff consisted of US citizens, as well as Japanese and Filipino nationals.
• Hired and onboarded eight newly-hired instructors.
• Conducted twice-a-year classroom evaluations of twelve instructors.
• Represented the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) and SRF-JRMC with a variety Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Navy, installation and functional area organizations.
• Planned and managed all aspects of English language training for students assigned to Language Training in Yokosuka and in Sasebo, Japan to ensure optimum training and student progress.
• Served as an ESL/EFL expert for instructors in the Language Training Branch in Yokosuka and in Sasebo, Japan.
• Wrote and delivered informational and analytical reports and demonstrated the ability to work harmoniously with personnel within the organization and outside of it.
• Supported the development of new speaking assessments at SRF-JRMC to be based on current test and measurement theories, principles, practices, and techniques, to include those relating to proficiency and diagnostic testing.

• Planned, organized, and directed activities of assigned ESL instructors, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements under the DoD, USAF, AETC, various security cooperation agencies, defense language organizations, and all military services while meeting customer needs.
• Exercised supervisory personnel management responsibilities, including appraisal of workers' performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques; hearing and resolving employee complaints, referring serious unresolved complaints to higher-level management; initiating action to correct performance or conduct problems; demonstrating sensitivity to ideas of subordinates; and serving as an ESL expert for instructors.
• Established, developed, and maintained effective working relationships within DLIELC and its various squadrons and flights. Planned and managed all aspects of academic training for students assigned to ensure optimum training and student progress.
• Utilized professional knowledge of ESL principles, approaches, methods, and techniques of instruction for ESL/EFL/ESP. Implemented knowledge of training administration, policies and procedures. Analyzed problems relating to proper ESL instructor and student management in order to develop viable solutions. Communicated and interacted effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization, including across multinational forums.
• Certified as a trainer for Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability courses offered within DLIELC. Worked with other trainers to develop DLI-specific scenarios for continued practice of Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability skills and principles. Served as a coach and advisor to employees seeking guidance and support in holding crucial conversations.
• Mentored two newly-promoted supervisors to orient them to job duties and approaches to various common issues that arise with personnel and with students.

• Planned, prepared, and coordinated instructional activities. Used professional judgment, imagination, and creativity to augment existing training materials, and create supplemental exercises and activities.
• Demonstrated linguistic and pedagogical expertise as well as technical subject matter familiarity, knowledge of content and organization of training materials, and skill in identifying and resolving language and cultural issues that arose.
• Conducted ESL/EFL/ESP instruction for international and US students, for students from over 100 countries; ranging in age from 18-60 and coming from varying cultural and religious backgrounds. Taught ESL/EFL/ESL from basic elementary to advanced English.
• Counseled students and made recommendations for student placement, advised supervisor of significant academic and non-academic issues. Developed ad hoc achievement tests as needed. Established learning environment conducive to adult ESL/EFL/ESP learning. Maintained effective rapport with students; demonstrated respect for and professional treatment of students and showed sensitivity to differences in cultural backgrounds and learning styles.
• Maintained student records, enforced rules, complied with all administrative tasks in a timely manner and with accuracy. Served as a mentor teacher to four newly-hired instructors.
• Detailed to the Professional Development Department. Accomplishments included compiling and analyzing teacher evaluation data; co-facilitated Cultural Awareness Seminar trainings; coordinated and conducted Familiarization to Specialized and Advanced English trainings.

• Taught ESOL students in grades 1 and 4-8. Developed individualized curricula for individual and small group classes for students coming from Japan, Korea, France, Belgium, Germany, and other countries.
• Worked with classroom teachers to modify instruction and assessment so that ESOL students could participate in regular classes with their peers. Supported students to complete classwork and assessments. Monitored students' progress and regularly communicated with parents.
• Advocated for ESOL students' needs and promoted training for all staff to work more effectively with ESL students.
• Additional activities: member of Education Committee, chaperone for middle school retreats; helped plan and coordinate fundraising for annual WalkAThon.
