Work History

Emergency Department RN

Children's Hospital Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora
10.2013 - Current
  • Quickly responded to situations impacting safety and security to unit, actualizing crisis prevention interventions to control and de-escalate situations.
  • I have grown in leadership during my time in the Emergency Department in several different ways. First, I am one of the charge nurses for the last 4 1/2 years. I enjoy this role as it challenges me to be flexible, organize staff, advocate for resources, communicate with different departments throughout the hospital, troubleshoot problems, help educate staff, and be a resource for anyone. Secondly, I also serve as the Critical Care Trauma Resource Nurse, CCTRN, on shift. If we have a trauma case or a critical patient, I oversee and organize the care. In this role I also train staff on trauma education. Thirdly, I serve as the Flow Nurse. This nurse is responsible for balancing patient loads, organizing where new patients go, and taking reports from outside facilities. Finally, I previously fulfilled the role of SANE RN in the ED and served as a provider in this specialty for 7 years.
  • I am always looking for ways to advance or gain new skills. Last year I became ultrasound IV trained and now use that skill daily to assist with care of our patients in the ED and throughout the hospital.
  • Over the years I have mentored numerous nursing students, EMT/paramedic students, new hires and new nurses. I have trained many of the staff currently working in the emergency department on trauma protocols, new equipment, and continuing education.
  • Performed triage on incoming patients and determined severity of injuries and illnesses.

Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Nemours Children's Hospital
07.2012 - 10.2013
  • I was hired to work at Nemours before the hospital opened. Was involved in an intensive 3 month orientation process where everyone in the unit got detailed education regarding the emergency care for children. It was exciting to open a new hospital that was specialized for children. It is one of the few freestanding children's hospitals in the country! I have seen many different types of cases and disease processes. I rotate between being an ED floor nurse and the pivot nurse which is traditionally called triage.
  • I belonged to the Quality Control Committee for the hospital and was on the ED Mass-Casualty Disaster committee.
  • Collaborated with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while managing rapidly changing conditions.
  • Administered medications via oral, IV, and intramuscular injections and monitored responses.

Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Celebration Health Hospital
07.2011 - 04.2012
  • When I was hired at Celebration, they were a 40 bed emergency room before they opened the new tower and new emergency room. I experienced the shift and struggles that come with expanding to a 55 bed facility. It was interesting to experience the changes from how the flow will go to where things are going to be stocked.
  • Worked as a Super-user for the computer system.
  • Provided care for patients and family members as well facilitated good communication between the ER and the floor units, between staff and doctors. I floated through many different positions: Facilitator, Float Nurse, Critical Care, Lean Track, Triage, and EMS offload. I also mentored nursing students doing their practicum and EMS students doing their rotations.

Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Winter Park Memorial Hospital
08.2007 - 06.2011
  • Began in the ER as a graduate nurse and went through Florida Hospital’s EDNIP (Emergency Department Nurse Internship Program) and worked over 4 years at Winter Park.
  • Skills obtained: Super-user for the computer system.
  • Administered different therapies and medications in line with physician orders and treatment plan.
  • Educated patients and answered questions about health condition, prognosis, and treatment.
  • Collaborated with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while managing rapidly changing conditions.
  • I float through many different positions: Facilitator, Float Nurse, Critical Care, Lean Track, Interventional, Triage, and EMS offload. I have also been a mentor to nursing students, EMS students, and Senior Nurse Techs.
