Twice awarded the most outstanding student honor for the University of the West Indies’ Certificate in Music program: academic year 1996-97, and BA Special in Musical Arts program: academic year 1998-99 Received three grants between 1996 and 1999 from various education funds for books and supplies to pursue my Certificate and BA in music at the University of the West Indies (St. Augustine Campus, Republic of Trinidad & Tobago) Received a full scholarship from the Ministry of Culture (Republic of Trinidad & Tobago) to read my BA in Musical Arts, Steelpan (1998 & 1999) University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Republic of Trinidad & Tobago: Newman Alexander Prize- Best Musical Arts Certificate Student (1998-99) Received a bursary from the University of the West Indies for outstanding results in the 1997 final examination The first candidate in the history of the University of the West Indies to complete the BA degree in Musical Arts Awarded a two-year graduate assistantship scholarship through the Les Trilla Foundation to pursue my Masters in Music (specializing in the Steel Drums) at Northern Illinois University Awarded the Anna Larson and Mary Jane Larson Baird Scholarship for minority students at Northern Illinois University on March 29th 2000 Awarded the Northern Illinois University Graduate School’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship: 2004-05 academic year Awarded the Met Life Fellowship for outstanding teachers in the field (October 2007) Awarded the Miami-Dade County Public School Board District’s “Teacher of the Month” recognition for writing the most successful grants in the region (February, 2013) Recognition of dedicated Visual and Performing Arts Educators, City of North Miami, Black History Month Celebration of Black Culture and the Arts.
