Elizabeth Hand, RN, BSN, CEN

• Direct the flow of this 26-bed department as the charge nurse, which includes overseeing and assisting 6 staff nurses, collaborating with physicians and APPs, and ensuring effective triage and patient placement throughout the department
• Provide high-quality care and inpatient charting for boarding telemetry, non-telemetry, and ICU patients while also managing care for incoming emergency patients with ratios up to 6-to-1

• Quickly adapt to new charting system and working environment with one day of orientation to supplement nursing staff in this 26-bed department
• Effectively manage patient ratio ranging from 4 to 8 patients, including assignments in the resuscitation bays and triage

• Monitor up to two patients recovering from anesthesia, collaborating with the anesthesia and surgical teams to provide safe and effective care
• Provide comprehensive care for ICU patients, medical/surgical inpatients, emergency trauma patients, and patients being discharged through Same Day Surgery

• Quickly adapt to a changing work environment as a float nurse serving the Trauma/Burn ICU, Medical/Surgical ICU, Neuro ICU, and the Emergency Department
• Facilitate patient admissions and discharges as Flow Coordinator in the Emergency Department

· Oversee flow of the department and up to 12 staff nurses as charge nurse and care for patients from pediatrics to geriatrics of all acuity levels at a Level I Trauma, Burn, and Comprehensive Stroke Center

· Collect data for quality improvement in all moderate sedations and provide targeted education to staff who are deficient

· Provide comprehensive unit-based education to co-workers for yearly competencies, assist with teaching Advanced Cardiac Life Support classes, and pursue quality initiatives as a member of the Trauma Nursing Workgroup

• Provide IV conscious sedation and monitor patients for MRIs and CT-guided bone marrow and lung nodule biopsies
• Place IVs and access ports for patients, triage patients for MRIs and CTs, and communicate effectively with ordering physicians and radiologists to provide best and safest scans for patients

• Provide comprehensive care for patients from pediatrics to geriatrics of all acuity levels at a Level I Trauma, Burn, and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Collect data for quality improvement for all stroke patients and provide targeted education to staff who are deficient

• Care for critically ill patients, including multiple medication titration, mechanical ventilation management, and advanced monitoring through arterial catheters, CVP lines, and PA catheters
• Prioritize tasks and care of two complex patients, complete comprehensive charting on each patient each shift, and participate with the physicians in family meetings to discuss goals of patient care
