Elizabeth Thurow

Undergraduate Political Science major at The University of Alabama with a strong focus on legal research and data analysis. Currently assisting in a faculty-led study on employment discrimination case law, applying machine learning tools to legal texts. Experienced in interdisciplinary inquiry through the Blount Scholars Program and committed to exploring the intersection of law, policy, and technology through hands-on research.

• University of Alabama Research Assistant- Assistant in the Political Science Department, supporting an independent study on employment discrimination case law. I prepare and input training data to help machine learning models read and categorize legal cases efficiently. Gaining hands-on experience in legal research, data management, and applying computational tools to political science and law.
• Blount Scholars Program- Selected in cohort of 120 first year undergraduates to develop a cross-disciplinary cohort, trained in liberal arts, dynamic collaboration, and critical thinking. The Program offers a speaker series along with core courses, unique short courses, mentorship, and research opportunities.
• Emerging Scholars Program- Member of a program that encourages research opportunities that allow students to gain experience that deepens their understanding in a field of study, develop the necessary professional skills, interact with a diverse group of other students and faculty members, and learn appropriate methods and techniques for presenting professional research.
