Volunteer Service/Extracurricular Activities:
Organization- Learn To Be
Learn To Be is a non-profit organization that provides 1-on-1 online tutoring to kids from under-resourced communities. This organization was created so that kids all over the world could have free and available access to education. I was able to connect with children on Zoom and help unlock their potential whether that be in reading, comprehension, or grammar. I also support them in reaching their academic endeavors and goals.
Organization- Project Diversidad
Project Diversidad is a program that is a part of the Meaningful Teen organization that was created in 2020. Project Diversidad pairs tutors with under-resourced children at the East Oakland Youth Development Center for one hour on Zoom every week. I met on Thursdays with children from EOYD, I randomly paired with a student every time. I kept track of the students' reading levels and comprehension on a Google sheet. Depending on what grade the student is in we either focused on sight words, sound words, phonics, or reading.
Organization- Our Lady of the Pillar
Some of the roles I take on around the church consist of video recording masses on Facebook Live where others are able to join from the comfort of their homes. I also help with the collection of money, and cleaning the church afterward which includes vacuuming, and putting technological equipment and decorations away.
Event- Raza College Day
Chabot College's largest outreach to the Latinx community, with workshops and cultural activities. Workshops such as financial aid, scholarships, and more. I assisted with setting up signs, directing traffic, giving tours, and escorting students to workshop rooms. I was also a part of the Puente workshop where I talked about my personal experience at Chabot and how the Puente Program has been able to aid me in my academic pursuits and offer me opportunities to enlarge my social circle and network.
Extracurricular Activty- Puente Club
President of the club. 30-member club. Created specific officer roles, and recruited officers, and advisers.Created the club constitution. I set up separate meetings with officers to discuss agendas and future events for the club. Organized potlucks, and social gatherings, and recruited a photographer to take photos of all the members for their LinkedIn.
Organization- South Hayward Parish: SHP Shelter, Meal Prep and Service
Serves over 600 families with food and supplies. Offers individuals a place to sleep, food, shower, and basic necessities that are used for daily living. I help by preparing and heating up meals for the homeless. I serve them food in an attentive manner, while also washing dishes, kitchen appliances, and sanitizing surfaces.
Organization- Luv Michael
Non-profit that trains, educates, and employs autistic adults. The program involved setting up my own personal fundraising page and sending out a message to family members/friends asking them to consider supporting and advocating for autism employment. Through supporting Luv Michael I was able to spread awareness about autism and raise $300 which aided in creating more work opportunities for autistic adults.
