For the past years, the Monmouth County Board of Agriculture has collaborated with the department of Family & Community Health Sciences part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension to educate youth at the fair as to where their food comes from. Over the years, it was evident that many youth did not actually know how fruits and vegetables are grown and were not just found in a grocery store! So local farmers have helped grow many of the displayed fruits/vegetables we use for this event. They were grown to where some are bearing fruit in order to promote a learning experience through fun interactive games.

I took the initiative to engage fairgoers to participate as part of the event. In this role, participants were asked to identify the fruit/vegetable on the plants displayed. This approach was positive and encouraging in that all who participated had fun and showed true appreciation.
