Work History

Teacher

Decatur County Schools
Parsons, TN
07.2023 - Current
  • I am currently teaching at Decatur County Middle School as the 8th-grade science teacher. I taught for the past two years as the 5th grade ELA teacher.
  • I believe that moving from 5th grade ELA to 8th grade science shows my adaptability and flexibility to do what is needed in a school.
  • It also shows my ability to reach students at different ages, and through different subjects.
  • I have proven my dependability throughout all of the school districts I’ve taught at, as well as my willingness to do what is needed to help students succeed.

Teacher

South Carroll County Special School District
Clarksburg, TN
05.2020 - 06.2023
  • I was employed for three years at Clarksburg School. All three years, I taught 4th grade all subjects.
  • I have had to learn to adjust to large class sizes at Clarksburg School, as my class sizes have ranged from 25 to 29 students.
  • This has challenged my ability to reach all students, and has strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction as needed.
  • I have also coached middle school cheer and softball at Clarksburg, as well as worked after-school tutoring and summer school.

Teacher

Henderson County Schools
Lexington, TN
08.2009 - 05.2020
  • During my employment at Henderson County Schools I used a broad range of instructional techniques to retain student interest and maximize learning.
  • I also collaborated with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning and student engagement by implementing remedial programs for students requiring extra assistance and improving students' reading levels through guided reading groups and whole group instruction.
  • I created lesson plans in accordance with state curriculum and school-wide curriculum standards and differentiated instruction according to student ability and skill level.
  • I taught students to exercise problem solving methodology and techniques during tests and encouraged parents to take an active role in their child's education.
  • 2009-2016: I exhibited my flexibility as an educator by teaching many different grades in the eight years that I taught at Beaver Elementary, including: first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh.
  • 2016-2020: My ability to adapt was exhibited at Scotts Hill Elementary when I taught fourth grade ELA and Math as well as 7th grade ELA in my first year at Scotts Hill. The next three years, I taught 4th grade ELA and Social Studies.

Teacher

Lauderdale County Schools
Ripley, TN
04.2007 - 05.2009
  • I started out teaching 8th grade at risk students. I learned a lot about motivation during this time and tried to retain student interest through fun activities and remediation.
  • The more students could understand and participate, the more they stayed engaged in the lesson.
  • I moved down to first grade after that and learned a lot about teaching foundational skills in both reading and math.
  • I did after school tutoring for students with dyslexic tendencies and worked on foundational skills with them using both tactile and kinesthetic strategies.
  • During my employment at Lauderdale County Schools I used a broad range of instructional techniques to retain student interest and maximize learning.
  • I achieved this by implementing remedial programs for students requiring extra assistance, improved students' reading levels through guided reading groups and whole group instruction, created lesson plans in accordance with state curriculum and school-wide curriculum standard, and differentiated instruction according to student ability and skill level.
  • I taught students to exercise problem solving methodology and techniques during tests and encouraged parents to take an active role in their child's education.
  • I also worked outside normal hours to be available to answer parent and student questions, collaborated with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning and student engagement, mentored and counseled students with adjustment and academic problems, and tutored children individually and in small groups to help them with difficult subjects.
