Extremely passionate, motivated scientist eager to make an impact in the field of Botany. Graduated from OSU with a BA of science in Botany with a focus in plant pathology with an institutional GPA of 3.41 in December of 2021. Value clear communication and working closely with a team to answer important questions in plant science. Diverse background of leadership roles and a hunger for acquiring new knowledge. I received a scholarship from OSU's botany department for being an exemplary student and made OSU's deans list for a consecutive 5 terms. I have many years experience in identification, propagation, and pathology of plant life including microorganism cultivation as related to the fungi and bacteria that are pathogenic on plant life. I have extensive knowledge of plant and pathogen genetics, physiology, and anatomy. I have laboratory experience from working in OSU's B&PP lab and have formulated, executed, and reported results of experiments during my time as a student at OSU.
Keep detailed log of DNA/RNA extractions, PCR amplification, gel electrophoresis, and test results for OSU B&PP lab tests.
Identify correct extraction method for plant tissue/bacterial sample.
Extract DNA using correct method for specific pathogen being tested for.
Build correct PCR cocktail using sterile techniques for specific pathogen.
Perform PCR amplification of DNA samples.
Maintain accurate storage for DNA extracts and PCR products.
Produce gels for electrophoresis tests.
Load gels with DNA ladder, +/- controls and PCR products to identify presence/absence of plant pathogens.
Develop, image, and interpret electrophoresis gel results including electronic labeling and storage of results.
Report test results to master plant pathology log.
Intake plant tissue samples including correct catalog number and sample size for necessary extraction.
Identify signs and symptoms of plant samples as well as diagnostic steps for pathogen isolation.
Take pictures of plant samples for plant pathology lab records.
Using sterile aseptic technique in flow hood, culture plant/fungal samples according to diagnostic instruction.
Safely use laboratory chemicals to follow standard operating procedures in creation of specific media formulations for culturing bacterial and fungal pathogens.
Use autoclave to sterilize glassware and other laboratory products.
