Under supervision, to assist in providing nursing services within public health programs.
  
Example of Duties

* Provides professional nursing staff support at various public health clinics. 
* Makes determination of required immunizations, and administers immunizations and other needed medications according to agency policy. 
* Provides nutritional counseling to clients and their families. 
* Performs well-child exams according to Federal guidelines. 
* Provides health education to individuals and groups. 
* Conducts public health screenings for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, etc. at health fairs and other settings. 
* Performs data entry and look up, data searches, reporting, and other functions using various computer systems. 
* Participates as assigned in County disaster plans. 
* Provides information to management for the development and operation of public health programs. 
* May assist with the orientation and guidance of new staff. 
* Assists in coordinating activities of paraprofessional nursing personnel. 
* May assist in surveys, studies, and research. 
* Keeps accurate records and makes reports. 
* Establishes and maintains effective working relations with the recipients of services, other employees, and the general public. 
* Acts as a first responder in a natural disaster or any public health, chemical, biological, nuclear, or radiological event. 
* Performs other duties as required.
  
QUALIFICATIONS
  
Essential Knowledge and Abilities

* Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of professional nursing. 
* Considerable knowledge of the laws regulating the confidentiality of client information. 
* Some knowledge of the use of computers and computer keyboards. 
* Ability to assess the health status of clients and families. 
* Ability to practice registered professional nursing effectively. 
* Ability to explain and interpret laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to registered professional nursing. 
* Ability to detect and identify symptoms of communicable diseases. 
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the recipients of services, other employees, and the general public. 
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
* Ability to keep accurate records and make reports. 
* Ability to respond to a public health outbreak or an emergency government public health disaster situation. 
* Ability to work in an enclosed environment wearing personal protective equipment.
  
Minimum Qualifications
  
You must meet these minimum Training and Experience requirements:

* Graduation from an accredited diploma nursing program or an associate degree nursing program. 
* Current Wisconsin licensure as a registered professional nurse.
  
Supplemental Information
  
Work Responsibilities may include:

* Child health checks 
* TB directly observed therapy (DOT) in the home 
* Adult and child immunizations 
* Sexual disease examinations 
* Adult health screenings 
* Blood pressures, glucose and cholesterol screens
  
Work Hours: 4 - 24 hours per month; which will most often occur on weekends, and holidays. Hours may also be scheduled during our regular business hours of 8 am - 4:30 pm, and some Tuesday evenings. 
  
Candidates must:

* Be able to be N95 Fit tested. 
* Possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license. 
* Prior experience is desirable but not necessary.
