As a driven and independent senior in high school, I am eagerly anticipating graduation and the opportunities that lie ahead. My high school and R.E.A.D. Alliance journey has been marked by hard work and a commitment to excellence, both academically and in extracurricular activities. I have honed my abilities to manage time effectively, collaborate with peers, and lead initiatives, preparing me for the challenges of higher education and beyond. My determination and work ethic have been the foundation of my success, and I am excited to apply these skills to new environments where I can continue to learn and grow.
As a Senior Teen Leader at READ Alliance, I took on a leadership role supporting both Teen Leaders and program staff to ensure smooth daily operations and effective literacy tutoring. My responsibilities included recording attendance for both Teachers and Teen Leaders, administering and completing "Looking Back Assessments" to evaluate student reading progress, and serving as a liaison between Teen Leaders and the classroom teacher. I entered the weekly data of the students reading progress. Lastly, I communicated regularly with the Program Manager and Teachers to address any program-related concerns or Teen Leader needs. This position developed my leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills in an educational setting.
As a Teen Leader at READ Alliance, I provided one-on-one reading tutoring to early elementary students using RALP (Reading Alliance Literacy Program) Books to strengthen their reading skills. My responsibilities included guiding students through structured literacy sessions, completing student datasheets to track daily progress, and administering and filling out “Looking Back Assessments” to measure reading development. I regularly communicated with the Senior Teen Leader and classroom teacher to discuss each student's progress and adjust strategies to better support their learning needs. This role strengthened my communication, leadership, and data tracking skills while making a meaningful impact on children's literacy growth.
During my Summer Bridge Internship, I collaborated with a dynamic team to explore and understand various Career and Technical Education (CTE) jobs and roles. This immersive experience allowed me to gain hands-on exposure to different industries, enhancing my practical skills and understanding of the workforce. I actively participated in team projects and workshops, which were designed to simulate real-world scenarios and challenges in CTE fields. My responsibilities included conducting research, engaging in group discussions, and contributing to presentations that showcased our findings and solutions. This role required effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, which were crucial in successfully completing our projects and delivering impactful results.
