As a Tax Examiner, I review, research, and evaluate distributed tax returns, payments, and taxpayer accounts

In this role, I am responsible for examining returns payments and accounts to ensure all cases are processed correctly, complying with all data and reporting requirements as outlined in the Internal Revenue Manual (IRM)

My daily tasks include preparing, controlling, and reviewing tax documents and reports, verifying or abstracting information, corresponding with taxpayers for missing or required forms or documentation, maintaining tax files, and resolving discrepancies related to returns, payments, or other tax-related matters

I frequently use my skills to research and collect factual taxpayer information using various methods and apply analytical skills to interpret and work with the gathered data

I am proficient with finding researching, and retrieving accounts and documents from electronic systems such as the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), Remittance Transaction Research (RTR), Employee User Portal (EUP), SharePoint, and the Social Security Online Portal even when the information from taxpayers is nonspecific

I have extensive knowledge of return and payment processing procedures, operations, regulations, and programs outlined by the IRM and local policies

I am passionate about upholding the Tax Payer Bill of Rights and earnestly consider taxpayers as I work each case and actively follow procedures to keep taxpayers' information confidential and secure.

I use my clerical skills to efficiently organize and maintain filing systems both electronically on my workstation as well as physical case files
